Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 29, 2026 · Last updated: July 8, 2026
The short version: Remember Project is built to protect your family's most private memories. We store only what's necessary to preserve your recordings and make them accessible to your family. We never sell your data. Your recordings are visible only to members of your family vault unless a vault admin deliberately shares an individual recording using the Share Recording feature (see Section 7A). Your recordings are never analyzed or transcribed, are never used to train AI models, and are never used to identify anyone by their voice. Your data is yours — always exportable, always deletable.

1. Who we are

Remember Project ("we," "us," or "our") is an iOS application developed and operated by Second Chapter Technologies LLC, based in Texas, United States. You can reach us at support@rememberproject.app.

2. What information we collect

Some of this information — including subject names, birth years, notes, photos, and the voices captured in recordings — relates to the people being recorded, who may not have accounts of their own. Section 10D describes how we treat information about recorded people who are not users.

3. What we never collect or create

People you record (subjects) do not need accounts. We collect information about them only through what you and your vault members voluntarily enter and record. See Section 10D.

4. How we use your information

5. We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information or your family's recordings with any third party for any commercial purpose. Ever.

Your recordings, questions, reactions, and photos are visible only to members of your family vault — people you explicitly invited or accepted an invitation from — unless a vault admin deliberately shares an individual recording outside the vault using the Share Recording feature described in Section 7A. Nothing is ever shared automatically.

6. Family vault isolation

Each family vault is completely isolated. Members can only access data from vaults they belong to. Row-level security policies enforce this at the database level — it is not possible for one family to access another family's data even with a valid account.

If you belong to multiple family vaults, each is a separate, isolated environment. Your activity in one vault is not visible to members of another.

7. Audio recordings — special protections

Audio recordings are the most sensitive data we store. We treat them accordingly.

7A. Sharing recordings outside your vault

Remember Project Plus includes a Share Recording feature that lets a vault admin share a single recording with someone outside the vault. Sharing is always a deliberate action by a vault admin — nothing is ever shared automatically.

How sharing works:

What we cannot control: once a recording has been played on someone else's device, we cannot prevent that person from capturing, re-recording, or preserving the audio by means outside the app. Time and play limits reduce this risk, but they do not eliminate it. Share only with people you trust.

8. Data retention and deletion

8A. Health information and medical content

Remember Project is not a healthcare application and is not subject to HIPAA or other healthcare privacy regulations. We are not a covered entity under HIPAA, and our security practices are designed for family archiving — not healthcare data storage.

If you choose to record conversations that include discussion of health conditions, medical treatments, diagnoses, medications, or other sensitive health information, you do so at your own discretion and at your own risk. We have no control over the content of recordings and cannot prevent, detect, or restrict health-related content.

We strongly recommend:

Remember Project applies the same security protections to all recordings regardless of content — but if you require HIPAA-compliant storage for medical records or protected health information, you should use a healthcare-specific service designed for that purpose.

9. Data sharing and service providers

No other third parties have access to your data.

10. Your right to export

Your recordings belong to you. At any time you may export your family vault as a ZIP file containing all audio recordings, named by question and subject — for example, Dad_What-did-the-kitchen-smell-like.m4a. This export is available from Settings → Export.

Remember Project Plus members may also generate a Memory Book — a formatted PDF of all recordings, questions, reactions, and photos, designed to be printed or shared with family.

We will never hold your data hostage. If you choose to leave the platform, your memories leave with you.

10A. Legal disclosures

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process. We may also disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

Where legally permitted, we will attempt to notify you before disclosing your information in response to a legal request.

10B. Your responsibility to obtain consent

Recording laws vary by jurisdiction. Some locations require the consent of all parties being recorded before a recording may be made. Users are solely responsible for complying with applicable recording consent laws in their jurisdiction before using Remember Project to record others.

Remember Project does not monitor recording content or enforce consent requirements. By using the app to record another person, you represent that you have obtained any legally required consent.

Recordings that include a child: If a recording includes a child, you must be the child's parent or legal guardian, or have permission from the child's parent or legal guardian, before recording. The app may ask you to confirm this before recording begins.

The app may also ask you to affirmatively confirm — before recording or before sharing — that you have the legal right and any required consent. These confirmations may be logged as part of your vault's records.

10C. Vault administration and succession

Each family vault must have at least one designated admin. The admin controls who can access the vault, invite new members, and manage subjects and recordings.

We strongly recommend designating at least one co-admin for every family vault. If the sole admin becomes incapacitated, passes away, or loses access to their account, Remember Project will not unlock, transfer, or grant access to the vault at the request of family members, legal representatives, or estate executors, except pursuant to a valid court order or other binding legal process.

Remember Project is not a fiduciary and assumes no custodial responsibility for family vault data. We provide a secure tool for family archiving. We do not adjudicate disputes over vault ownership, inheritance, or access rights between family members, and we may require the agreement of authorized users or valid legal process before acting on any disputed request.

In the event that a vault becomes inaccessible due to loss of admin access:

To protect your family's memories, we encourage all admins to designate a co-admin during vault setup and to keep their account credentials accessible to a trusted family member.

10D. People who are recorded but do not have accounts

Many of the people whose voices are preserved in Remember Project — parents, grandparents, and other family members — never create accounts. We take their privacy seriously.

Removal cannot reach copies that were exported, shared, or captured outside the Service before the removal took effect.

11. In-app purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see, store, or handle your payment information.

12. Children's privacy

Remember Project is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact support@rememberproject.app and we will delete the account promptly.

Children's voices may appear in recordings made by adult users — for example, a grandchild asking a question or answering one. The adult who makes the recording is responsible for having permission from the child's parent or legal guardian before recording (Section 10B). A parent or legal guardian may request removal of recordings of their child at any time (Section 10D).

13. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including:

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.

14. Geographic availability

Remember Project is currently offered in the United States only. Data is stored in the United States (US West, Oregon). If you access the Service from outside the United States, you acknowledge that your data will be transferred to and stored in the United States, which may have different data protection standards than your country of residence.

If we make the Service available in other countries in the future, we will review and update this policy to describe the privacy rights that apply in those jurisdictions before launch there.
